SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR 2022 REUNION

Friday, May 6th

  • 8a: Walk or run with Bob Milan on the Elkin Trail (part of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail).  Meet Bob in front of the Recreation Center at the town park.

 

  • Morning/Afternoon: (10a to 3p): Walking Tours of downtown Elkin & Elkin Museum with Laura Gaylord of City Hall (free).  Winery tours begin at Chamber of Commerce (there is a fee).  High school and Elementary School tours will also be available.  High School gym Renovation Project tour with Dr. Myra Cox, Superintendent.  Classes can also get together at various venues.

 

  • 4p:  Reception at Fairfield for Scholarship Donors

 

  • Evening Early (5p – 7p or as long as you desire): Classes have their separate reunions at a restaurant or other venue of their choosing.  I'm working out the places with class leaders. Several classes may share the same venue.  See Explore Elkin for venues and menus.

 

  • Evening (7:00p): Continue your class reunions, attend a show at the Reeves(fee) and/or Enjoy Live Music downtown provided by Explore Elkin (free).  Attend  Block Party on Main.

 

Saturday, May 7th

 

  • 7a:  Walk or run with Bob Milan on the Elkin Trail (part of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail).  Meet Bob in front of the Recreation Center at the town park

 

  • Morning (9a -11a):  Multi-class Program in Reeves:  “State of the Union” of Elkin City Schools by Superintendent Myra Cox / Video of Blue and Gold Alumni Scholarship winners / Video about 1960’s classes / Recognitions of State Champions and inductees into Surry Sports Hall of Fame / Honoring class achievements and outstanding alumni / Recognition of alumni authors  / Songs by Robert Holthouser and Luke Mears / General Tom Metz will honor alumni vets.

 

  • Late Morning & Afternoon (11a up until 3:30p):  Multi-class meeting in downtown on Main Street between Church St. and N. Bridge Street with all classes intermingling and music playing.  Alumni can have lunch at Reeves Café, Southern on Main, Angry Troll, Wisdom Table or other restaurant.  Food Trucks will be available.  Regrettably, Royal’s Soda Shop has gone out of business. 

    ~Visit Farmer’s Market between 11a to 12p with live music featuring Jewell’s Harp, which plays country, blue grass, and old-timey               songs.

    ~Self-guided tours of old YMCA 10a to 2p. Now called Foothills Arts Center and the Yadkin Valley Fiber Center

    ~Robert Holthouser (Class of 70) and Luke Mears (Class of 2010) will be playing original and pop music at Grassy Creek Vineyards          from 2p to 5p.

  • Early Evening (4p -7p): Dinner on your own or with your class continuing separate class reunions at a restaurant or other venue chosen by your class leader.  Again, classes are encouraged to share a venue with other classes.

  • Evening (7p until 9 or 10p): Sock hop/Music Event in the Elementary gym with Elkin Big Band playing Beach Music.  Also, we may have a DJ playing music of various eras, maybe Karaoke too. Those who are unable to dance can still enjoy the music and socializing with alumni of your own class and others.  Authors will have their books on display.

 

Sunday, May 8th (For those who wish to remain in Elkin)
